The Dhagpo Kagyu library intends to develop collaboration with French libraries such as the EFEO, the BULAC or the EPHE, and with foreign institutions and universities, notably in India and China where the Tibetology or the Buddhism departments are multiplying. Furthermore, putting in place an inter-library loan system will facilitate access to rare documents.
UNAL, the UNESCO network of associated libraries, assembles libraries in different parts of the world. The Dhagpo Kagyu library intends to join this network in partnership to encourage understanding and tolerance, and promote the exchange of ideas and experiences.
The team at the library continually conducts research on location, in collaboration with local contacts. By going more frequently to India, Nepal and to Tibet, they can visit remote places like the Palpung monastery in Kham (eastern Tibet) or monasteries in Sikkim (North-eastern India). These secluded sites hold little known treasures of knowledge. By integrating these rare documents into the Dhagpo Kagyu library, they can be accessible to everyone.
The translation centre will gather western translators under the guidance of Tibetan scholars and eminent professors, both French and foreign. Its goal will be to render Buddhist wisdom accessible to the greater public.
The Dhagpo Kagyu library also intends to favour access to knowledge by putting the sciences of the mind, body and the world in relation. The Institute offers space for these interdisciplinary exchanges in the form of workshops, symposiums, seminars and training cycles.
By bringing access to knowledge, libraries participate in developing education, culture and information. The Dhagpo Kagyu library also would like to organize discovery workshops for the school children in the area. It would like, for example, to offer a playful access to another form of culture by inviting them to journey, through storytellers, throughout time and different places.
